FunKey Piano Project
Welcome to FunKey Piano Project!
Welcome to the FunKey Piano Project at the Texas State University School of Music! Our piano program is designed for students in grades K–12. At the heart of our program is a simple belief: learning the piano can be both joyful and transformative. We guide students in developing a natural, relaxed technique, laying the foundation for expressive and effortless playing. Along the way, we spark imagination, build musicianship, and nurture a deep, lasting love for music that can grow with them through every stage of life.
The current curriculum and educational philosophy of the FunKey Piano Project reflect the work of Dr. Martin Kesuma, whose contributions helped shape the program's emphasis on joyful learning, creativity, collaboration, and artistic growth.
Private lessons are scheduled individually with each student's assigned teacher. Our instructors are dedicated undergraduate and graduate piano majors at Texas State University, carefully matched with students based on their skill level and personality. As part of our Piano Pedagogy Lab, lessons are supervised by the Program Coordinator and faculty advisors, ensuring ongoing mentorship for our instructors and a high-quality educational experience for every student.
Beyond weekly one-on-one lessons, students also participate in rotating group classes organized by age group to foster collaboration, creativity, and community. Each semester culminates in a formal recital—an opportunity for students to share their achievements and for families to come together in celebration of music, growth, and accomplishment.
